The Millsap Alumni Scholarship Foundation has embarked on a new project. In April, 2016 the Millsap Alumni Scholarship Foundation Board approved the charter for the Millsap High School Hall of Honor. This project will be a place for members of our school community to nominate worthy graduates, former students, teachers, staff, and "Friends of Millsap" to receive the recognition of being inducted into the Millsap High School Hall of Honor.
The charter for the hall of honor is linked below. Nominations will be accepted during the spring of each year and induction into the Millsap High School Hall of Honor will take place during homecoming festivities.
Mrs. Barbara Parker'53 (Received by Jack Parker, husband and Jackie Parker-Hartt, daughter- Mrs. Parker's lifelong dedication to education and her profound impact on the Millsap community make her an exceptional candidate for this prestigious recognition.
Barbara Parker's journey began in the halls of Millsap High School, where she was a dedicated student, graduating in 1953. In 1952, during her senior year, she married Jack Parker, and after starting a family, she realized the limitations
placed on women in the workforce during the 1950s and 1960s. This realization led her to pursue higher education, enrolling in Weatherford College in 1962, where she played college basketball.
Her passion for teaching was ignited in 1965 when she worked for Mrs. Dean's private school, and she knew then that education was her calling. In 1966, Mrs. Parker began her long and impactful teaching career at Millsap Elementary while continuing her studies at Texas Women's University. Her commitment to education spanned more than 45 years, with 35 of those years dedicated to Millsap ISD before her retirement in 2001.
Mrs. Parker was more than just a teacher-she was a mentor, a role model, and a devoted advocate for her students. She often spent her personal time and resources to ensure her classroom had the necessary supplies when school allotments ran out. Even in retirement, she could not step away from the classroom entirely, returning to teach for a year as a maternity leave replacement and continuing as a substitute teacher until 2011.
Beyond her teaching career, Mrs. Parker cherished her time traveling with family and friends, but her heart always remained with her students. Her selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to education have left an indelible mark on generations of Millsap students, shaping the future of our community through her tireless efforts.
